1.The origin of腊(La 4)八(Ba 1)Festival:
It was said that 腊(La 4)八(Ba 1)Festival was originated from Ming Dynasty. Before Zhu Yuanzhang, the emperor of Ming Dynasty, get his crown, he was imprisoned. starving and chilling. Suddenly, he found some 红豆(Hong 2 Dou 4),红枣(Hong2 Zao 3) , rice and other seven or eight grain of kind. So he boiled them together and this food got him through the hardship. It is the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month. After Zhu Yuanzhang got the crown, he called the food腊(La 4)八(Ba 1)粥(Zhou 1) and declared the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month as腊(La 4)八(Ba 1)Festival in honor of his hard time in prison.
2.How to cook腊(La 4)八(Ba 1)粥(Zhou 1):
Step1: preparing the materials as follows:红枣(Hong 2 Zao 3)莲子(Lian 3 Zi 3)核桃(He 2 Tao 2)栗子(Li 4 Zi 1) 杏仁(Xing 4 Ren 2)松仁(Song 1 Ren 2)桂圆(Gui 4 Yuan 2) 榛子(Zhen 1 Zi 3)葡萄(Pu 2 Tao 2)白果(Bai 2 Guo 3) 菱角(Ling 2 Jiao 3)青丝(Qing 1 Si 1)玫瑰(Mei 2 gui 1)红豆(Hong 2 Dou 4) 花生(Hua 1 Sheng 1)and some other nuts and dried fruits that you like. Washing them.
Step2:boiling these nuts and dried fruit together with rice on light fire.
